Alpha Bank and the Contemporary Art Museum of Crete join forces for a special exhibition of works by Greek female artists
The exhibition “WOMEN. Greek Female Artists in Conversation through Time” focuses on the female perspective on artistic creation from the past to the present.
On November 19, a special exhibition jointly organized by Alpha Bank and the Contemporary Art Museum of Crete will open its doors to the public in Rethymno. Over 67 representative works by 53 Greek female artists, active in different historical periods, define the role of women in the Greek art scene.
The exhibition “WOMEN. Greek Female Artists in Conversation through Time” seeks to bring out the polyphony, sensitivity, and innovative spirit of major women artists from the 19th century to the present day. The exhibits come mainly from the Alpha Bank Collection. On the initiative of the Contemporary Art Museum of Crete, works by contemporary female artists are also presented, adding the element of a “live” dialogue and providing a current “platform” for women artists who express the concerns, dreams, and challenges of our times.
Dimitra Tsangari, Head of Alpha Bank's Cultural Collections, said: “At a time when gender equality and showcasing female creativity are at the forefront of public discourse, the Exhibition takes on increased significance, as it is not limited to a simple presentation of works, but acts as a bridge between yesterday and today, highlighting the way in which women artists have helped shape Greece’s cultural landscape – and continue to do so to this day.”
Maria Maragkou, Artistic Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete, said: “This is the fourth time that the Contemporary Art Museum of Crete has worked together with Alpha Bank – and for us, this is both an honor and a source of joy. We are delighted with this exhibition, as the Alpha Bank Collection has always been a point of reference in our country’s art scene. We welcome it and thank Alpha Bank, and we hope that the Cretan public will once again appreciate the works of this exceptional Collection.”
The official inauguration of the Exhibition will take place on November 18, in the presence of the Chair of Alpha Bank’s Board of Directors, Dimitris Tsitsiragos, and of prominent figures and artists from the wider region of Crete.
